This article was written for Gizmodo and discusses the future of knit technology and smart textile. I spoke with luminaries in the field and learned about some very forward thinking applications of knit. The applications I wrote about in the article focused on the more average user experience, but when discussing knit, many applications are more industrial, for example the knitting of carbon fiber or carbon fiber replacements which could come off the machine already in 3dimensional form. This would require only the resin lamination process around a mold: slip the 3D knit over a form (like a sock), impregnate with resin and pull off a structural form. This is one example of many interesting applications we may see soon in the world of knit.
